Designer and Owner Comments:
Designer Comments:  Teachers, students, parents and administrators worked with the architects to design this prototype middle school. The project can be built with a 650 student capacity and is equipped with a full size gym, auditorium and cafeteria. These assembly spaces are arranged around the main lobby for student circulation during school and public events after hours. Administrative offices have direct visual supervision of this lobby where all students, staff and visitors enter the building. Bus and automobile traffic is separated on the site that also includes baseball and football fields. The central corridor that intersects the main lobby maximizes security and supervision of the entire length of the facility. Three classroom wings radiate from this central corridor. Each wing has a teacher workroom, staff toilets and resource classroom. The media center is at the center of the classroom wings and is easily accessible to all grades. The school is equipped with an art room, band and chorus rooms and computer labs. An integrated communication system links each classroom to administration and the media center. Extensive daylighting is by through the storefront windows - that also provide critical views of the exterior landscape. The building is clad with concrete masonry and brick, sloped roofs receive standing seam metal. Each school has a unique exterior and interior color scheme to preserve the school community identity.
