Designer and Owner Comments:
Designer Comments:  This prototype is designed to be flexible and support a variety of delivery methods. The layout is open and airy with wide corridors to expedite traffic flow. The environment is bright, well illuminated with many age-appropriate amenities. The main entrance allows administrative staff to monitor access into the building. Flanking the entrance on the right is the activity room and the cafeteria. These two large spaces are easily combined by retracting a partitioned wall and using the space as an auditorium. On the left is the media center. This computer lab adjoins a traditional library and reading room. The school is divided into four classroom wings, grouped by grade level. Classrooms surround two core educational environments -- a learning "commons" and a resource area. The commons is a multi-functional "island" where seating configurations can be arranged to support large or small groups, independent or subject-centered learning; and to encourage a sense of community among students. Within the commons is the resource area. This self-contained work system includes task-lit computer and work stations, bulletin and white boards and storage units.
