| Designer Comments: The Primary School is a Pre-Kindergarten through Grade Three Elementary School. The building is designed with an initial population of 650 students and possible growth to 750 students. The basic building has 6 classrooms for Grades Pre-K through Grade 3. In addition there are 2 Exceptional Child classrooms, 1 Arts classroom, 1 Music classroom, 1 Computer Lab and 7 Resource classrooms. The classrooms are supported by a centrally located Media Center, a Multipurpose Room and a separate Dining Room with a full commerical kitchen. The Administration Suite is located next to the front entrance and close to the Media Center. The Multi-Purpose Room and the Dining Room have been laid out so that they may be used as staging areas for loading and unloading bussed students. They are also available for after school use without opening the entire building to the public. The classrooms are laid out in three wings, each wing for Grades 1 through Grade 3 has 6 classrooms and can be expanded by adding 4 additional classrooms without having to adjust the location of fire walls. Each classroom has an exterior exit door. The building is constructed with a structural steel frame and masonry block walls. The exterior is brick veneer with a standing seam metal roof. The building's insulation system is located at the exterior walls and at the roof providing a completely conditioned building volume. This eliminates saging ceiling tiles, hot attic spaces and accidental removal of the insulation by maintenance personal. |
