Designer and Owner Comments:
Designer Comments:  The High School facility designed to captures the imagination of the students, stimulates the faculty, and encourages parent involvement. The auditorium is located next to both the arts and vocational arts classrooms encouraging a cooperative atmosphere between the trades and the arts. The use of the two-story central core with the student commons creates a strong visual presence both inside and out while solving problems with interior circulation and preserving ground space. This core is built around the student commons featuring a two-story interior space separating six major academic areas with adjacencies for media, guidance, and administration. This becomes both the interior heart for the school and the exterior focal point. Smith Sinnett Associates sought to create a strong sense of place both interior and exterior with the purpose of establishing a sense of Alma Mater for the students and the community. The school has already succeeded in energizing the faculty and providing the students with a strong sense of identity and belonging. This high school completes development of Jacksonville Commons, an integrated complex of community use schools and the district's recreational complex.
