Designer and Owner Comments:
Designer Comments:  The Elementary School was modeled after a previous school in Central North Carolina, using Ja similar 2-story classroom wing in the new design. This 2-story approach permitted better use of the available site. Older students use the second floor, and faculty work rooms at each level encourage collaboration. In addition to conserving the available site, the 2-story configuration has the added benefits of reduced roof area and a more compact thermal envelope for energy savings. A movable wall system permits the school's Multi-Purpose Room to be quickly combined with the Cafeteria to accommodate larger functions. The school is part of a K-8 campus, and shares an entry drive with the adjacent middle school. A central chiller system is shared by both schools to enable more energy-efficient operation.
