Designer and Owner Comments:
Designer Comments:  The Main Lobby of this prototype school can be readily accessed from front, side or rear. The Main Lobby serves the Administration offices and Media Center. A side lobby serves the Dining and Multi-Purpose rooms. This arrangement provides site planning flexibility when the prototype is reproduced. Bus and car approaches can be planned to deliver students, staff and visitors to the Main Lobby from various directions. This flexibility permitted the plan to be twice used by Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as a replacement school on a tight site. The existing Sedgefield and Pinewood schools each remained in operation while a new school was constructed on the existing site. The Dining and Multi-Purpose rooms can be combined for large assemblies by opening a folding partition. Classroom wings can be secured from the public use spaces. Classrooms are arranged in pairs with a Tutor room between. Tutor rooms can be used as small instructional settings, additional offices, or work rooms. One-way glass between Tutor room and classroom permits administrators and parents to observe classes in progress. The uniquely designed mechanical system can be fully serviced without entering the classrooms. The variable air volume system characteristics reduce the potential for mold growth. In reproducing this plan, the classroom wings can be shortened to create a 600 student school, the K-1 wing relocated closer to core use areas, the Tutor rooms retained or deleted. This true prototype plan offers an Owner a wide range of choices.
