Designer and Owner Comments:
Designer Comments: The major programmed spaces are organized along a circulation spline. An entry tower on the west side cues the school's entrance for visitors and parent drop-off of students. The administration group is just off of the main entry doors providing a good control point and visitor access. Three classroom wings, K-1, 2-3, and 4-5, plug into the main circulation corridor, providing quick access to the centrally located Media Center and Cultural Arts Spaces. A multipurpose Dining Room/Play/Stage area accomodates many diverse functions and various sized groups, giving the school maximum flexibility without the need for additional square footage.
Owner Comments: This plan is based on W-S/FCS's elementary prototype design. Several changes were made from the original prototype. The Administrative area and Dining/Play/Stage elements were reversed to provide direct access to the Media Center. The size of the Kitchen was increased to allow for greater student capacity. Gang toilets have been added to the K-1 wing to provide more flexibility in allocating students from year to year.
