Designer and Owner Comments:
Designer Comments:  The Elementary School and Middle School is one unified school replacing an existing elementary school and an existing middle school. The design shares core facilities but maintains the separation of elementary and middle school programs. The overall plan for the elementary school and the middle school complex is based upon a central axis, which connects the elementary school and the middle school to the central (core) services. The core area includes kitchen and cafeteria, media center, administration, multi-purpose room and gymnasium. The core area also includes a large portion of the building mechanical systems. The building axis is oriented on an east-west axis in order to provide the optimum solar orientation. There are three roof monitors, which provide daylight to the main corridors. These monitors are located at the central axis of the school and at the cross axis of the elementary school and the middle school. The design is very efficient, resulting in an overall net to gross ratio of 1.45.
