| Designer and Owner Comments: |
| Designer Comments: This facility is an elementary/middle school which shares several common support facilities as follows: cafeteria and kitchen, media center, and administration. The administration suite has two separate principals but combines workroom and support type functions. Other spaces which are shared but are separated through class periods are the resource rooms, music room, art room, and foreign language. The structure takes advantage of the steep site by stepping the building up the hill creating a 3-sstory building which exits at grade at each level. This also allowed the designers to separate the public portions of the facilities for community use from the instructional area of the facility which can be locked down and separated. Interaction between elementary and middle school students are kept to a minimum by providing separate classroom academic wings. The media center has one reading room laid out to provide elementary/middle use on opposite sides of a large space. This facility houses a full-size gymnasium with locker/shower facilities and a multi-purpose room for smaller assembly type functions. |
